In honor of a century since the passing of Emile Claus (1849–1924), this exhibition pays tribute to one of Belgium's most celebrated painters. Claus, often referred to as the master of Belgian Impressionism, was renowned for his ability to capture the shimmering effects of light on canvas. His vibrant depictions of rural life along the Lys River established him as a pivotal figure in European art and a leader of the Luminism movement.

Emile Claus and Friends not only highlights Claus’s iconic works but also places them in dialogue with those of his contemporaries and fellow artists, including Rik Wouters, Georges Morren, Constant Permeke, Leon Spilliaert, Gustave Van de Woestijne, Anna De Weert, Jenny Montigny, George Minne, and Valerius De Saedeleer. This diverse selection of artists provides a unique insight into the artistic synergy of the period, illustrating how they collectively shaped the trajectory of modern Belgian art.

Through this exhibition, we celebrate the enduring legacy of Emile Claus and his circle, showcasing their shared passion for color, light, and the beauty of the Belgian landscape. Their work continues to inspire and captivate, standing as a testament to a golden era of artistic innovation.
